The town of Zwönitz is delighted to announce the opening of a new cultural center: The BUNTSPEICHER - future maker hub of the Smart City project. This multifunctional venue in the Ore Mountains opened its doors last week and offers the community an exceptional platform for various art and cultural projects.
The historic building was extensively renovated and redesigned with an investment of around 20 million euros. Old traditions and modern innovations come together in the listed industrial building: This is where regional arts and crafts come together with a software forge.
The opening delighted numerous guests, including local politicians and cultural representatives, who were impressed by the modern facilities and the diverse possibilities of the BUNTSPEICHER, particularly with regard to the promotion of Erzgebirge culture.
As part of the preparations for 2025, the year in which the surrounding Ore Mountains were also named European Capital of Culture, the BUNTSPEICHER plays a key role in the regional cultural strategy.
“The European Capital of Culture Chemnitz brings a whole new facet to our rural art and culture scene. On the one hand, this presents us with particular challenges, but for the years from 2025 onwards, it offers us an outstanding opportunity to attract attention in new ways, even among groups of people who were previously inaccessible to us.” Wolfgang Triebert Mayor of Zwönitz
A big thank you goes to our dedicated colleagues who worked on this beautiful project in the areas of HLS construction supervision, project management and construction support. With the BUNTSPEICHER as the new centerpiece of the cultural landscape, a strong signal has been set for the importance of culture and community.
